Safety Precautions:

Never leave baby unattended.

I will never walk across the room leaving baby in a prop, or on the bed/floor, unattended. Should I need to leave the space, where the baby is, a parent or my assistant will always be right there to monitor baby.

Parent/Assistant are always close by.

Not only are parents or my assistant an extra set of eyes. They are an extra set of hands! If baby needs extra pats while I finish preparing the set up, having parents or an assistant is a huge help.

Use of 'Supporting Hands'.

If I am trying to get baby in a "froggy pose" or "bum up" pose. Using parents or assistants in this case, helps keep baby safe. Their supporting hands will never come off baby, keeping their head and neck safe.

No Forced Poses.

If for any reason baby does not want to cooperate at any time during the session, we will move on to the next set up/pose. There is no reason to cause stress to a newborn for one image, regardless of how badly myself or the parents want the image. If, later in the session, I notice baby is more cooperative, I may try again, but no poses are guaranteed during a newborn shoot.

Warmth.

Your newborn is used to being snuggly tucked into your belly, a super warm space. So, I keep my studio at 72 degrees during newborn photoshoots because they spend almost 50% of their time, with me, naked. In some cases, babies are placed on a heating pad, kept on low, to keep them warm during diaper-less poses. I encourage parents to dress appropriately, it may get a little toasty in the studio, during your session.

No loose Items.

Everything used around baby will be secure, to ensure nothing can fall on top of baby. Including my camera strap, which will never leaves my neck, unless it's placed on the ground while baby's wrap or pose is being changed.

Wash & Wash Again.

My hands are washed upon initial arrival to the studio in order to keep props clean. Then, I wash again after completely setting up the days props. Then, I wash again upon baby's arrival to the studio, before touching them. Frequently, during handling, I will stop and wash my hands again or use hand sanitizer.

Illness.

For any reason, before your session if I, you, or the baby gets any type of illness, we will reschedule. Babys' immune systems, this early in life, are pretty much equivalent to zero. I pride myself in taking as many precautions as I can to keep illness away from your newest addition and any other babies that may be in the studio after. This includes wearing a mask, during your session, when in close proximity to baby's face.

Laundry

I'm sure you can imagine the laundry pile of a newborn photographer. It's almost never ending. But it's important that each outfit, wrap, and blanket be washed after every session to keep germs and bacteria from spreading. I wash all my fabric props in dye-free, perfume-free detergent to keep potential unwanted allergens off of baby's skin.
