What an Exciting Time!

Recently, you have found out you were expecting a new bundle of joy and you're in the middle of deciding what you want to hire a photographer for. There are 3 main types of sessions people consider when thinking about pictures of their baby: birth photography, fresh 48 photography, and newborn photography. Which should you consider?

Birth Photography

Birth photography is for those who don't want to forget a single moment of baby's journey into the world. You will never forget the little details of your child's birth when you have images to look back on. I will be on call from week 37 on, any hour of the day. Birth photography captures the labor, birth, and golden window. The "golden window" is the first two hours immediately after the birth. Parents and baby are often snuggling and spending this time getting to know each other. Birth photography is raw and beautiful.

If you're not into someone taking pictures while you're giving birth, fresh 48 or a newborn session may be a better option for you.

Fresh 48 Photography

A Fresh 48 Session takes place during the first 48 hours of baby's life, hence the name. Fresh 48 sessions take place in the birthing center. They are perfect for those who don't want birthing images specifically but would like images in the birthing facility. Some will use the Fresh 48 session to introduce siblings or even grandparents to the newest family member. It is popular for individuals to schedule the Fresh 48 session on the morning they are due to be released.

Newborn Photography

For any reason, if you're not into birth photography, or don't feel like having others in the hospital room, a newborn session is always an option. There are two types: lifestyle or posed. Lifestyle Newborn Photography takes place in your home, or outdoors. It captures the day-to-day of taking care of a newborn baby. You may have pictures taken of you cuddling on the couch as a family, changing a diaper, or making bottles in the kitchen.

On the other hand, Posed Newborn Photography takes place in a studio. Baby is typically wrapped and posed with different props. Family may also participate in posed newborn sessions; they will be posed as well. Newborn sessions take place within the first 14 days of baby's birth. In the first two weeks babies sleep periods are longer than their awake periods, making it easier to capture those dreamy moments.
